Arugula

What is it?

Arugula is a vegetable that comes from the Mediterranean Region, very popular in the regions of Italian colonization in Brazil. Rich in mineral salts and vitamins A and C, it is appreciated for the spicy taste and pleasant and accented smell.

It belongs to the Brassicaceae family, the same as cabbage, cauliflower and broccoli. The vegetables in this family have important substances for maintaining health, so include several times a week at least 1 vegetable of this family on your menu.

                                                   Delicious spicy flavor!

How to conserve

Arugula has a short shelf life after harvest. In an environment condition, the product can be kept for a maximum of 1 day, provided it is placed in a very cool place with the underside in a bowl of water.

In a refrigerator, the product should be maintained in a plastic bag and kept for up to 4 days.

How to consume

Arugula is traditionally used raw in salads, seasoned with olive oil, salt and lemon. It can be mixed with watercress, lettuce and chicory. The blend with softer flavored leaves, such as lettuce, is especially indicated for people who consider the taste of arugula very pronounced.

It can also be used as an ingredient in pies, quiche, lasagna and sandwiches. Whenever possible add the arugula at the end of the preparation of the dish, in order to reduce the cooking time of the leaves.
